Performance and the dbcachenowsync option

I saw a lot of Performance questions on this list.
I did some permformance test, too and the result
shows my Hardrive is the Bottleneck.
This is because slapd writes the caches all
the time a entry is added to the disks.
This means writes are not cached.

With this setting i can add only 4-5 Accounts per second.
With the "dbcachenowsync" option it's much faster.
about 100 User Account Objects/s.

how dangerus is this option ?

When the Server crashes:
What can happen to my data ?
Can it destroy the whole Database ?
or are only the new entry affected ?
