european accent and slapadd command

Hello

I use openldap-2.0.7-14
I try to use /usr/sbin/slapadd command to create a base with ldif file
without using slapd deamon (/usr/sbin/slapadd -l file.ldif)
But my file contains european accent and the slapadd command seems to
refuse it.
Is it normal ?
If yes how I can use a similar command (slapd is stopped) with a ldif file 
which contains european accents ?
