ps and ls work (ie, they list ldap groups/users correctly)
I havent come across anything with the padl modules that hasn't worked (yet!)

Hmm...  so you do not need 'ps' or 'ls' to work?  Take a look at ipsec
support in Sol 8 and here is your transport security.
