Multiple search attributes

Can anyone tell me how to do a search, with more than 1 attribute. 
it must be possible because I can do it via Netscape 
Communicator.

I have tried the following ldapsearch

ldapsearch -L -b "dc=pokuscca,dc=cz" "cn=1214,sn=nov*"

and I get nothing back. If I seach on cn=1214 or sn=nov I get back 
the details I was looking for.
