which schema is the best

Hi,

I'm going to start right now with a brand new OpenLDAP server with a new
schema.
Is there a policy suggested to follow in defining the schema?
Is the schema provided (etc/openldap/slapd.oc.conf) a good standard that
I can follow?
I know that I can modify as much as a wish the schema, but then what
happens when I try to make other applications access LDAP database, I
mean, how, ie a calendar, could understand attributes in my database?
