starting new simple

I have to start fast on LDAP.  I'm totally new to it.  Compiling the stuff
and getting it to run doesn't look to difficult.  However, the DB looks
quite complicated.  I think my implementation is fairly straightforward.  I
need to be able to search on the name field or pull up the whole db from
outlook.  I really only need the persons full name, organization, tel no.
and e-mail address.  However I will need to import a file that has 12,000
users with a lot of extra fields that I don't need.  The file has some
questionable delimiters but I think I can work with it but I don't know how
I can get it to import into a ldap db and make it workable so that I can
update the db every week or so. The update comes to me as a new file with
the same 12,000 users with a few additions, changes or deletions.

I'm thinking of starting the ldap server up on a HPUX machine running 10.20.

What do I need to do to learn ldap fast?  What can I read?  Sample
configurations?
