Can this be done (a newbie question)

Greetings,

I am getting ready to attempt an implementation of LDAP for a corporate 
"white pages".  It is my understanding that one should approach LDAP with a 
"database" attitude in that it can hold anything so I will belay the 
questions about what can be stored.

My question is actually about permissions.  Can LDAP restrict access to 
particular "fields" base on some user status (e.g. executives can see home 
address but warehouse cannot)?
