root password bug?

Using OpenLdap 1.2.7, my slapd.conf has:

rootpw    crypt{someLetters}

lets say the actual password is "openldap".

In addition to using the correct password, I can log in using a password of
"openldap1", "openldap101", or seemingly anything that is a superset of the
correct password....

Is this the intended behaviour?

Thanks
Graeme
