ldapmodify and replace/delete

Sometime ago, there was a discussion that, using ldapmodify, a replace
directive should always be followed by a value. 
(see http://www.openldap.org/lists/openldap-bugs/9907/msg00016.html). 
Now I wonder if, in version 1.2.6, this is still the case?
