Maybe this (man slapd.conf):

      lastmod on | off
              Controls  whether slapd will automatically maintain
              the modifiersName,  modifyTimestamp,  creatorsName,
              and  createTimestamp  attributes  for  entries.  By
              default, lastmod is off.


I'm unsure if it is advisable to use this with openldap-1.2
