ldapsearch

Does the ldapsearch command line utility support complex or only simple
searches?
For example, the following command line yields results:

ldapsearch -v "uid=jeff*" mail l o

but,

ldapsearch -v "|(uid=jeff*)(sn=mull*)" mail l o

will not.
