RFC 1777 obsoleted RFC 1487, the previous revision of the
LDAPv2 technical specification.  It is quite common for the
IETF to update a specification as it progresses on the
Standard Track.

I note that the IETF is currently working on an update of the
LDAPv3 technical specification.  That is, documents which will
obsolete RFC 2251 and friends.  I encourage those interested in this
work to get involved.
