You might try running slapd with -d256 and watching outlook search.
Netscape and Outlook use different search filters by default. In
outlook, by default, it also expects the given name attribute to be
present (ie something like (&(givenname=*)(sn=*)(cn=*)) .)
I wound up just putting in the givenname attribute for our phonebook at
NMSU, and then things seemed to work fine.
