Possible to have blank passwords?

Hi,

Is it possible to have blank passwords for users? I know its not secure
but this account is just for mounting an Appleshare volume - it doesn't
have shell access. I have tried a bunch of different things:

1) Creating an account without the userpassword attribute
2)  Setting the userpassword attribute to just {crypt}
3) Setting the userpassword attribute to {crypt}x
4) Using ldappasswd to set the password and just pressing return twice
when prompted for the password. This resulted in a regular crypted
password entry - I'm not sure what its using to generate the hash ( my
carriage return??)

Is this an easy one that I'm missing or am I trying to do something the
RFC's don't allow?

Basically, if you can't wade through what I've tried above, I'm looking to
get:

Patron::502:502::/home/Patron:/bin/false

into LDIF form or enter it directly into a LDAP directory server but that
blank password has me stumped.

Thanks,

Kevin
