Which Backend is "Best"?

I'm just getting started with OpenLDAP 1.0.2 and it looks like
my first big decision is picking a backend. From the config file
I see my choices are Berkeley db b-tree, Berkeley db hash and GNU dbm.

Can anyone give me any insights into the differences between these
three? Are they all well supported? Any known bugs/problems?
How about speed differences?

[Seems like everyone new to LDAP would have this question, but I
didn't find anything in the archives about it.]

Also, is there an administrator's guide or more complete documentation
included with OpenLDAP? I'm going to UMich to get the info I need.
Did I miss something?

Thanks for any insight you can give me.
