Works from ldapsearch, not from netscape

This is probably a "Hi, I don't know LDAP from a hole in the ground" question,
but...

I have the latest stable openLDAP and Netscape Communicator 4.5b1. All
on Solaris 2.6, all on the same machine.

If I use ldapsearch, I can find myself (objectclass=*) returns me and
the organization I'm part of.

If I use Netscape's 'address book' and set things up properly, I get a
"Failed to search 'Aurora' due to LDAP error 'Can't contact LDAP server' (0x51)

This happens if I set the IP address to be 127.0.0.1 or the full IP of my
machine. Any idea what's going on here?
