You must be looking at a different version then I have.

The Umich LDAP v3.3 SLAPD & SLURPD Administrator's Guide
copyright is identical to that of the software.  As long
as the notice is preserved and we give Umich credit, we
can use and redistribution this document.  Modification
is considered "use" and is not restricted.  Redistribution
of modifications is also not restricted.

I am working getting the original RTF for the guide.  Editing
PDFs and PostScript files is a little difficult...
