I'm using libdb-4_5-4.5.20-94.17 from openSUSE 11.1 which is AFAIK fully
patched.

The interesting fact is that HEAD currently hangs all the time in
test008. RE24 with your recent changes now fails as described in
test039. Before these changes RE24 just worked fine.

I think this is related to modifications in connection.c because trouble
started after HEAD contained these changes.
