Ah, thank you for clarifying.  At some point in the distant past (OL2.2.x)
I specified shm_key in slapd.conf and then had problems which seemed to be
solved by specifying set_shm_key in DB_CONFIG (or the other way around).
I can't remember at this point whether slapd was unable to open the
environment or if it was something to do with db_recover, db_stat or
db_verify or some other utility complaining about connecting to the
environment.

Since OL handles the db_recover these days and if slapd can connect to the
environment without set_shm_key in the DB_CONFIG, then I guess this
particular element isn't an issue.
