by "root cause" I mean: is the network unreachable, did the remote
server die, why is back-ldap retrying the connection (i.e. calling
ldap_unbind(), ldap_initialize(), ldap_sasl_bind() for a simple
anonymous bind)?  I think I tried all the possible adverse response
types to back-ldap, and it turned out to be pretty resilient at least in
those cases where retrying would lead to a fresh working connection.
