here it works with hdb as well.  You didn't specify when you checked
HEAD out; recently (one day ago) I fixed a silly timing problem in the
retry of the config files of this test; since the two servers start in
sequence, with some delay, the first one does not immediately find the
second; the retry was so badly set (my fault) that the test could end
before they had a chance to complete syncing.  Be sure you get 1.8 of
tests/data/slapd-glue-syncrepl* from HEAD.
