Hmm, it seems it had something to do with starting HEAD and
OPENLDAP_REL_ENG_2_3 builds after another (not at the same time I think)
using the same database. Commenting the directive 'checkpoint' healed
the symptoms.

Please close this issue for now. I will file another one if I see any
further problems. Sorry for the noise.
