^M on the end of lines? (ITS#1038)

Just a quickie. I just downloaded the stable release from one of the US
mirrors and untar'd it on my Solaris dev server. When running ./configure
I was urprised to find the "Cannot find file" error. Now, I've come
across this before and checked the file out in vi. Sure enough every
line of the file ended with a ^M. 

So, I take them all off and try again - different file has an error.
I check that one (build/config.sub) and sure enough it too has ^M on
the end.

I'm going to plow through and try to get it compiled anyhow, but does
anyone else have this problem?
