slapd dies when queried by Outlook's Find People (ITS#15)

Hi.  I'm just getting up and running with openldap 1.1.
I was become quite satisfied with its performance after
about a day of tinkering (the input functions are painful
to use...) but I've run across a problem.

I can search via Communicator's ldap client just fine.
When I use "Find People" which comes with IE/Outlook,
though, slapd dies.  I can't find any message logging
of any kind, so I have no idea why.

Has anyone experienced this?
