The SVRLOC WG has worked on the problem of discovering LDAP servers within
a single enterprise network (as opposed to somewhere in the Internet).  The
solution we propose is having LDAP clients use SLP to discover SLP enhanced
LDAP servers.  Jon Wood <jon.wood@sun.com> has published an SLP service 
template which defines a taxonomy for distinguishing LDAP servers.  This
work is of general interest to the LDAP community:
