FREE (Directory) X.500 DAP/LDAPV3 Application Client Stack Sour ce Code

Dear All, the intent of this release note is to provide advanced
information to the IT/EC industry of a major step in the consolidation
of global directory standards as used by Electronic Commerce
applications.

OpenDirectory is a leading vendor of
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and X.500 directory
products and wish to assist the Electronic Commerce, directory
application and system vendors who require directory access technology
to be incorporated into their own products. To this end, OpenDirectory
is making its DXapi - X.500 Directory Access Protocol (DAP) client
software stack source code (which operates over TCP/IP and the Internet)
available without any license fees to qualified developers.

				DAP functionality is considered as
having similar functionality to that of LDAP V3. However, DAP provides
additional directory services such as List and Read operations and other
parameters for distributed directory service controls. The DXapi release
supports LDAP V3 filters, LDAPV3 distinguished name forms and some LDAP
V3 schema. The DXapi is also provided with application example code,
documentationan and an LDAP style API, which enables the rapid
integration of LDAP type applications.

				OpenDirectory will initially provide the
DXapi source code to selected development organizations who wish to
develop EC type LDAP/DAP applications that can leverage off the power of
full X.500 Directory System Agents (DSA) systems and interconnected LDAP
servers. OpenDirectory may release the DXapi to the wider market at a
later date, but this may be subject to pricing and demand.

The release of this API should enable
the rapid development of client based directory access modules for
services such as EC, DEN, mobile telephone systems, white page/yellow
pages, DNS, Radius, X.509 certificate management and ILS, etc. In
addition, the release will also provide another major step in the global
harmonisation of LDAP and X.500 directory technologies.
