Dear Sir,

I have installed openldap on a small linux system. I can search it with
ldapsearch.
For example,

  ldapsearch -L -b "o=Coventry University, c=GB" -w secret "(objectclass=*)"

returns a long list. However, netsacpe 4.74 only gives the error

failed to search 'Test Directory' due to LDAP error 'Unkown error'
(0xFFFFFFFF)

If I search for things containing the letter M I get a single response (which
is
Manager) and then that "failed to search" error. If I search for something that
is
not in the word manager I get nothing other than the error. There are over
15,000
entries in the DB and they do appear with ldapsearch. I am configuring Netscape
with
the root as shown above that is "O=Coventry University,C=GB"

I have checked the FAQs and other on-line resources and while many many people
have
posted similar problems there have been very few responses. Is this just a bug
that
will be fixed in some future release or is it a problem with Netscape or maybe
its
something I am doing wrong.

best wishes....
Colin
