Hi: Does this package have to go to root(su) to install? and does it work if I install it on my home directory. Thanks, Joe

A few notes: If you wish to run an LDAP server as non-root, you must give it a nonstandard port number (1024 or more), which is slightly less convenient for the users because they have to specify the port number explicitly. If you want to put a service on a port number below 1024, you need to run it as root. And if you do that, you should probably install as root. It may be easier to break in as your user than as root. If files owned by your user are run as root, that would make it possible to break in as root through your user. -- Hallvard
