I tried using bind_simple_unprotected in slapd.conf but it is not accepted when
I
start the slapd server.  In the distribution, I see BIND_SIMPLE_UNPROTECTED
listed
as a mask in servers/slapd/slap.h, but no check for bind_simple_unprotected is
made in servers/slapd/config.c.  Is this a bug, or am I totally missing
something
somewhere?

Apparently, that part of code has been eliminated; you can obtain
the same result by using

security simple_bind=<ssf>

with a <ssf> of 0.  See

Of course the online documentation needs be updated.
