Hello,

at first, make sure the server is listening/running. You can check this
by % ps aux | grep slapd; or % netstat -nlp | grep slapd;.
If the server is listening, then I'd suggest to check
'/etc/openldap/ldap.conf', but you will have to consult with Fedora's
documentation for location of this file, or try to provide -H option to
% ldapsearch; which specifies host to connect to. I think the option is
eg. ldap://myhost:389
