I'm confused about what you're suggesting here: as I understand it,
simple authentication is still used, even though it's over SSL (after
all, that's what the ldapsearch invocation is doing, isn't it?)

And what do you mean by "create SSL context"?  I'm frustrated at not
finding documentation explaining how to do this...
