slapd locks up and wont work till "killall -KILL slapd"

I am having a constant problem with slapd locking up and stop answering
queries of any kind, if I killall -KILL slapd, and restart slapd it will
work fine again for awhile, and then a day or so later it will lock up
again. Its using the ldbm backend.
