ldap_start_tls_s deprecated: the replacement is?

Hi all,

I am trying to figure out what the "correct" way is of using STARTTLS 
within openldap's C SDK.

Previously the method used was the ldap_start_tls_s() function. This 
function has been deprecated, and the docs for it have been deleted 
(however none of the links to this particular documentation has been 
changed), however no record has been made anywhere of what the new 
STARTTLS method is.

Does OpenLDAP still support STARTTLS, or has this option been dropped 
from the SDK entirely?

Is there any definitive documentation for this anywhere? Google finds 
tonnes of documentation, all of it conflicting and out of date. There 
isn't even documentation in the SDK source code.

Can anyone help?
