WRT upgrading OL, I don't know if it will solve your problem but you can
do it in gentoo quite easily. Use a portage overlay and copy
openldap-2.2.14.ebuild to your overlay. You can rename it to 2.2.19 and
look for superseded patches in the ebuild. It will however pull in
db-4.2.xx (wich might be blocked in package.mask or thelike) but this is
not a problem since  db-{1|3|4.0|4.1|4.2} are different SLOTS.
