Using the configure command that Howard suggested:

    CC=xlc_r                          \
    CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/local/include    \
        -I/usr/local/ssl/include      \
        -I/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.2/include" \
    LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/ssl/lib     \
             -L/usr/local/lib         \
             -L/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.2/lib" \
    MKDEP=/dnload/ldap_dir/openldap-2.2.13/build/mkdep.aix \
    ac_cv_func_getaddrinfo=no         \
    ./configure --with-cyrus-sasl     \
            --enable-bdb              \
            --with-kerberos           \
            --disable-shared          \
            --enable-static           \
            --disable-ipv6 

test000 runs successfully.

Hm, I think I ran into this recently as well. getaddrinfo() on AIX
appears to be rather broken, the easiest fix is to tell configure not to
use it. Set ac_cv_func_getaddrinfo=no when running configure.
