Yeap, your rite Howard. You see, I installed cyrus-sasl 2.1.18 but didnt know that there was an old version (2.1.10) that was installed along with the installation of RH9

slapd.1.log said that testrun expected version 2.1.18 BUT it found 2.1.10 instead. so I just rpm -e --nodeps the old version and everything works.
