You have said this many times, but you should at least qualify it. I
have a situation where it is most certainly *not* wise to have the
transaction logs anywhere but on the same partition as the database ...

Sure...

Repeated tests have shown that if you have your transactions logs on the same spindle as your DB, you can severely impact and degrade performance of the directory service if there is a high volume of writes occuring.
