RE: Berkeley db package really necessary for openldap??

Are you trying to build from scratch?  If not, TCL may be needed as a
dependancy of the RPM.  I recommend installing from scratch.  I installed
OpenSSL, Heimdal, Cyrus-SASL, Berkeley DB and OpenLDAP (in that order) from
source.  Redhat's RPMs are way behind.  One note of caution: you have to
remove the db4-devel rpm or heimdal install will fail.  I also when ahead
and removed all devel packages related to kerberos, openssl, and openldap.

I've had success with running OpenLDAP on RHEL 3.0 (although some
performance issues with my IBM Dual Xeon's).
