I had the same problem

sammalhabe:/home/duke# ldapsearch
LDAP vendor version mismatch: got 20117, expected 20121

sammalhabe:/home/duke# dpkg --list | grep -i ldap
ii  ldap-utils     2.1.21-1       OpenLDAP utilities
ii  libldap2       2.1.17-3       OpenLDAP libraries

Solution: upgrade your libldap2 package
