Help! success stories with Eudora and openLDAP ?

Any success stories you can share with me on using openLDAP with Eudora? 
(version number etc..)

when use eudora run ldap query in the front end, the word-wise filter I am 
using is:
(cn=*^0*)

search base is:
dc=monterey,dc=k12,dc=ca,dc=us

0.1.254:1112 (IP=:: 34049) accepted.

return I got from eudora is: Ready - Last found 0



However, same query, works for netscape mail:

base dn: dc=monterey,dc=k12,dc=ca,dc=us
bind dn:
search filter:(objectclass=*)
