what authentication method to use with Outlook?

Hi all. I'm trying to get Outlook clients to use an OpenLDAP directory.

I read the items in the FAQ, and I can successfully bind (both anonymously and as a
user) with a plain-text connection.

However, I don't want my LDAP server to accept plain-text connections.

In the Directory Service -> Properties -> General dialog, I found the
"Log on using Secure Password Authentication" box. When I check this, I
can no longer connect.

So the question is, what kind of authentication does Outlook do when the "Secure
Password Authentication" box is checked?

Also, the Directory Service -> Properties -> Advanced dialog, there is a
"This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" box, which forces a
connection to LDAPS instead of LDAP. This doesn't work either (I have
verified on the server that LDAPS is indeed up and running), but I would
rather not use LDAPS anyway.

Any help would be appreciated.
