lachman-laser is as you know a draft and expired July 2001. AFAIK it's
never been pursued.

That having been said, it works :-) and I use it as a basis for mail
routing with Exim 4 (it uses standard Openldap schemas). Exim is
generally reckoned as being a lot easier to configure than Sendmail and
has many more custom-configurable options, ldap included.
