Is the OpenLDAP documentation kinda old?

In the OpenLDAP doc at
http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin21/quickstart.html ,
we are instructed to do 

ldapadd -x blah blah

or 

ldapsearch -x blah blah

I have OpenLDAP on my Solaris, and whenever I issue
the -x option, I get 

ldapsearch: illegal option -- x

or 

ldapadd: illegal option -- x

And their man pages also do not contain an -x option.

Any explanation please?
