Which is why I always download SRPMs and build them myself. The old ./configure; make; make install method is not manageable when it comes to upgrades and software removal - when I upgrade a package, I want to be 200% sure the old package is gone.

Indeed ! , the URL I gave in previous mail is mainly for SRPMS !
Anyway, at least for BDB, I you take a look at the spec file, it compile statically to the latest BDB tar.gz, included in the source RPM .
