back-perl on with perl 5.8.0

I cannot get back-perl from the openldap-2.1.12 distribution to compile on
a stock RedHat 8.0 box with perl 5.8.0

I get this error:

Is perl 5.8.0 supported for back-perl?  Anyone have any ideas?
