It took a damn long time to figure what I was doing wrong. First problem was that I had the permission on the directory that the ldap data was stored as 777 for root. The second problem was that I needed to set rootdn and rootpw in the slapd.conf. Thanks Tony, Sundaram, and Christian. Theodore Reph treph@att.net
