autofs4 uses wrong protocol? [Suse 8.1,i386]

Hi!

I'm a little bit helpless at the moment. :-)

The ldap server is up and running, login works fine. But the automounter won't work.

The following error (from "messages")

Nov 19 14:45:24 mount automount[1435]: starting automounter version 4.0.0, path = /home, maptype = ldap, mapname = 141.99.248.56:nisMapName=auto.home,dc=rs,dc=uni-siegen,dc=de
Nov 19 14:45:24 mount automount[1437]: starting automounter version 4.0.0, path = /net, maptype = program, mapname = /etc/auto.net
Nov 19 14:45:25 mount slapd[356]: daemon: conn=24 fd=18 connection from IP=141.99.248.56:32826 (IP=0.0.0.0:389) accepted.
Nov 19 14:45:25 mount slapd[1335]: conn=24 op=0 BIND dn="nisMapName=auto.home,dc=rs,dc=uni-siegen,dc=de" method=128
Nov 19 14:45:25 mount slapd[1335]: conn=24 op=0 RESULT tag=97 err=2 text=requested protocol version not allowed
Nov 19 14:45:25 mount automount[1435]: lookup(ldap): couldn't connect to 141.99.248.56

Where can I determine the used protocol version for the automounter?
Setting the protocol version to "2" in the ldap.conf doesn't work, it confuses all the rest.

The same (as I can see :-) ) configuration worked fine on a sparc (Suse 7.3)
