I expect this was supposed to be

@-$(LN_S) . $(srcdir)/data

which creates (e.g.)

lrwxrwxrwx   1 jpdalbec jpdalbec          1 Aug 20 13:59 data -> .

It's easy to get confused about the source and destination with many
Unix commands.
