back-perl error?

I'm trying to compile OpenLDAP 2.1.2 with the --enable-perl option to
allow me to test out back-perl. However it's bombing out of make with the
following error in modify.c

modify.c: In function `perl_back_modify':
modify.c:72: request for member `ad_cname' in something not a structure or union

Has anyone got back-perl working ?
Should I be using an earlier version of OpenLDAP?
