uid (aka userid, oid = 0.9.2342.19200300.100.1.1) is defined in RFC1274,
and used in the objectClasses (on my server): inetOrgPerson,
nsLIProfile, posixAccount, shadowAccount, and uidObject.

uniqueIdentifyer (oid = 0.9.2342.19200300.100.1.44) is not used by any
objectClass (on my server).

The only difference that I can see is that the uid defines a substring
matching rule (caseIgnoreSubstringsMatch), which is not true for
uniqueIdentifyer.

Hope that helps,

Hans
